I forgot to post this when Kevin was discussing our players being sent to the AFL. Major league organizations can only send one player who has not reached AA to the AFL. The deadline to be considered in AA is August 6th. That's one reason you see so many promotions in early August, to make players eligible for the AFL. If you remember, the Rays promoted Heath Rollins to AA after his start for Vero Beach on August 6th. Rollins is not on the list of players being sent to the AFL that Kevin discussed, but I have to think the timing of the promotion was to keep the Rays options open. He's pitched enough innings this year (161.1, 159.1 in 2007).
