Rays LHP Heath Phillips (AAA Durham) and three relievers combined on a no-hitter as the Caneros de los Mochis blanked the Algodoneros de Guasave 2-0 Monday. Phillips pitched five innings, struck out two and walked five.
Phillips was released by the Yankees (AAA Scranton Wilkes-Barre) on July 19, 2008. On July 29, 2008, Phillips signed a minor league contract with the Rays. He was originally the White Sox's 10th-round pick in 2000 and was named the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher in 2006. Phillips in 2008:

The Peoria Javelinas (3-3) play the Phoenix Desert Dogs (3-3) in a rematch of last nights 3-2 Desert Dogs win. Updates in the Comments.
Through 2 innings the Javelinas are up 2-0. Rays players are 1B Rhyne Hughes 1-1 (double) with an RBI and DH J.T. Hall 1-1 (single) with a run scored.
ReplyDeleteJavelinas lose 5-4 to the Desert Dogs. Hughes went 2-4 with a double and an RBI, Hall went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. Mason relieved and went 1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, followed by Ryan Reid who gave up a hit and a walk in an inning, with 2 SO's, and then came Wlodarczyk for an inning of 4 hits, 1 ER, a walk and a strikeout. Mike took the loss and was credited with a blown save, Reid and Mason got holds. Full winter league stats updates tomorrow as time premits.
