Puerto Rican Winter League:
Gabriel Martinez, Leones de Ponce: On 12/5 he was 2-3 (single, homer) with a run scored and 2 RBI. On 12/7 he went 0-2 with 2 walks.
Chris Kelly, Lobos de Arecibo: On 12/5 he pitched a scoreless inning allowing one hit and struck out one. On 12/7 he took the loss going 2.0 innings and allowing an earned run on one hit with a strikeout.
Eduardo Morlan, Criollos de Caguas: On 12/7 he went one inning and gave up an earned run on 2 hits with a strikeout.

In other news, the Rays outrighted right-hander Chad Orvella to the Durham Bulls (AAA) which reduces their 40-man roster to 38 players. Orvella did not pitch in 2008 due to a shoulder injury.
And finally, Marc Lancaster reports that "the Rays have hired Tim Ireland as their Pacific Rim scouting director. Ireland, 55, previously scouted in Asia for the Rockies and has spent several seasons as a minor league manager for several organizations."
