"This fellow here, I find intriguing," Maddon said. "What he's done in the past when he was with Houston, he's been fighting to get everything back, even during in winter ball. I saw him pitch in Venezuela not this year but last year, and since that point his stuff has come on a lot. I really believe he's a very competitive young man, and I still think there's a lot left there, so I want to see it. So we thought it would be kind of interesting to get him out there early. ... There's something about him I like, and I just want to see it out there. I think he's a real pro the way's he going about his work, and let's see what it looks like."
