The Montgomery Biscuits have made several transactions today: RHP Jason Isringhausen added on Major League rehab assignment; INF Fernando Cortez activated and added to Montgomery roster; RHP Ryan Reid added from Extended Spring Training; C Ian Paxton received from Hudson Valley Renegades roster; C Craig Albernaz promoted to Durham Bulls; RHP Rayner Oliveros reassigned to Charlotte Stone Crabs; INF Matt Hall reassigned to Charlotte Charlotte Stone Crabs.
The seven moves leave the Biscuits with 24 active players, one (Jason Bowers) on the Disabled List and one (Isringhausen) on Major League rehab.
Isringhausen: Joins Montgomery on a Major League rehab assignment from the Tampa Bay Rays. The 13-year Major League veteran and two-time All-Star will be in uniform for the Biscuits game on Monday night. Isringhausen made 42 relief appearances for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008, netting 12 saves while compiling a 1-5 record and an ERA of 5.70. The 36-year old has recorded 293 career saves. Due to his rehabbing status, the right-hander will not count against the Biscuits Southern League roster.
Cortez: Has been assigned to Montgomery after signing a minor league free agent contract with the Rays and will join the team on Monday. The Biscuits inaugural MVP in 2004, Cortez most recently spent the 2008 season with the Charlotte Knights (AAA) in the Chicago White Sox organization. He has 16 games of Major League experience, making his Major League debut with the Devil Rays and appearing in eight games in 2005. He also appeared in eight games with the Kansas City Royals in 2007.
Reid: Has been on the Montgomery roster since opening day, but was forced to linger behind breaking clubs in Port Charlotte due to spring elbow pain.
Paxton: Paxton has been with the Biscuits since the beginning of the season, but has been inactive.
Albernaz: Promoted to Durham to take the Bulls’ roster spot of Michel Hernandez, who was recently promoted to Tampa by the Rays due to an injury to Shawn Riggans.
Hall: Hall was received from Charlotte when Bowers was placed on the Disabled List on 4/11. He appeared in one game and struck out in his only at-bat.
Oliveros: Sent to Charlotte after making two starts for the Biscuits, including picking up his first win in his last outing. In his two starts, Oliveros had an ERA of 9.00 over 8.0 innings.
