The Game - Charlotte was unable to contain the Fort Myers offense as they fall to Fort Myers 7 to 1 at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers. Fort Myers looked sharp in their home opener, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a two run homer by Steven Singleton and an RBI double by Daniel Berg. Fort Myers tacked on another run in the third off an RBI double by Chris Parmelee that scored Deibinson Romero.
The Stone Crabs picked up a run in the fourth inning as Matt Fields grounded into a force out allowing Shawn O’Malley to come in for the score. But Charlotte was unable to gain any ground and Fort Myers put the game out of reach with another three run inning in the seventh. This time it was Steven Singleton with an RBI triple and then scoring off the wild pitch by Brian Flores. Daniel Berg drove in the third run of the inning with a sac fly to right to score Deibinson Romero.
Scott Baker (1-0), in Fort Myers on an MLB rehab assignment, picked up the victory. Jesse Darcy (0-1) was charged with the loss.
What Went Right - Reid Fronk was 2 for 3 with 2 singles.
What Went Wrong - The bullpen; I understand Brian Flores took over the game with a 3 run deficit, but you can not win games when your pen is giving up runs like this. The offense; 1 run off 5 hits while striking out 5 times will not get the job done.
A Look Ahead - Both teams head back to Charlotte Sports Park for game three of the four game series. The Stone Crabs will send David Newmann to the mound.
