Jason Cromer returned to Montgomery and helped lead the Biscuits to a 4-2 win over Mobile in the series finale from Riverwalk Stadium on Friday night. Cromer (1-0), added to the Biscuits roster on Friday morning, turned in six strong innings to earn his first win of the season at the Double-A level. He conceded a lone run on five hits while striking out three.
Montgomery jumped to the lead first with a run off of Mobile starter Cody Evans in the third inning. Ian Paxton singled with one out to start the rally and came home to score on Desmond Jennings' league-leading fourth triple of the season into the alley in left-center field and the Biscuits led, 1-0.
Mobile tied the game with their lone run off of Cromer in the fifth when James Skelton led off with a single and advanced to third on double from Chris Rahl. He came in to score on a sacrifice fly supplied by Pete Clifford. Rhyne Hughes gave the lead back to the Biscuits when he socked his league-leading fifth home run of the season inside the foul pole in right field off of Evans with Brandon Chaves aboard in the sixth. Hughes' two-run blast gave the Biscuits a 3-1 advantage. Evans (2-1) was saddled with the loss, surrendering three runs over six innings.
Cesar Suarez capped the Montgomery scoring with an RBI double to the left field corner in the seventh, plating J.T. Hall for a three-run lead. The Biscuits final run was charged to BayBears reliever Scott Maine. Calvin Medlock earned his third save of the season, permitting the BayBears final run in the eighth, but striking out the side in order in the ninth to nail down the victory.
The Biscuits open a five-game series against the Jacksonville Suns on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Jeremy Hellickson will make the start for Montgomery against LHP Taylor Graham for Jacksonville.
