The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs lost 4-0 to the Clearwater Threshers on Friday night at Brighthouse Networks Field. Clearwater wasted no time getting started by putting their first run on the board in the first inning off a sac fly by Tim Kennelly to score Arlon Quiroz and put the Threshers ahead 1-0.
Clearwater added to their lead in the seventh as Joel Naughton lead off the inning with a double to right. Jesus Villegas Andino follows with an RBI to double to score Naughton and then came home on an RBI double by Arlon Quiroz. The Threshers got their final run of the night in the eighth off when Michael Durant doubles home Tim Kennelly and gave the Threshers the 4-0 lead.
David Newmann was the losing pitcher surrendering 1 run off 4 hits and picking up 5 strikeouts while walking 2 in 5 innings of work. Justin Garcia pitched 2 innings in relief allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 3. Paul Phillips finished off the game going 1 inning giving up 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 1. Kyle Drabek threw a complete game shut-out to get the win for Clearwater.
What Went Right: David Newman; 4 strikeouts in 5 innings, only allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits.
What Went Wrong: The Offense; shut out with no multi base hits and struck out 7 times as a team.
A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs head to Steinbrenner Field in Tampa to begin a four game series against the Tampa Yankees (20-25). Jeremy Hall (4-3) will take the mound for the Stone Crabs.
