The Candidates: Matt Joyce, John Jaso, Jon Weber. Joyce hit for a .265/.403/.388 line in 49 AB's. He drew 11 walks but struck out 16 times. Jaso went .291/.361/.491 in 55 AB's. Of his 16 hits, 7 went for extra bases, including one home run. Weber put up a .275/.393/.420 line in 69 AB's. He drew 13 walks and stuck out 15 times.
The Winner: John Jaso. The 25 year-old continues to hit AAA pitching, where he put up a line of .278/.339/.481 in 108 AB's last year for Durham after being promoted from Montgomery. He was drafted by the Rays in the 12th round of the 2003 draft.
