The Candidates: Wade Davis, Winston Abreu, Dale Thayer. Davis had a 2.95 ERA in 18.1 innings over 4 starts, with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks. He only allowed 11 hits, and one home run. Abreu appeared in 8 games and had a 1.46 ERA. In 12.1 innings he struck out 15 and walked 3. Thayer appeared in 9 games and did not allow an earned run all month. In 11.1 innings he struck out 7 and walked 3.
The Winner: Wade Davis. The 23 year-old continues to impress at AAA, where he started 9 games last year after a promotion from Montgomery going 4-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 53.0 innings with 55 strikeouts and 24 walks. He was drafted by the Rays in the third round of the 2004 draft.
