Chris Richard's two-out homer in the ninth gave Durham an impressive come-from-behind win over Lehigh Valley on Saturday night, 5-4. Richard's homer to right-center off Mike Koplove (1-3) followed a hit-by-pitch of Joe Dillon on a 1-2 breaking ball. That allowed the Bulls to erase a 4-0 deficit. Richard now has a team-best 11 homers and 36 RBI. Jon Weber had hit a three-run homer in the fifth to draw Durham within a run against starter Antonio Bastardo, who had struck out 11 in his Triple-A debut.
Durham started Jason Childers, who gave up a two-out run in the first, and then allowed three runs in the second. Childers, who pitched a scoreless third, was starting for David Price. It was Childers' first start since 2002. Julio DePaula and Winston Abreu followed Childers, and threw six no-hit innings between them. They walked three and fanned 11. All told, each team struck out 15 batters.
Durham, now 26-16, will finish the four-game series on Sunday at 1:35 with Wade Davis facing Carlos Carrasco in a battle of righties. Coverage on 99.9 the Fan begins at 1:15.
