The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs swept the series versus the Jupiter Hammerheads by winning 5-1 at Roger Dean Stadium. Jupiter jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Mike Stanton drove home Gregory Burns for the Hammerheads only run of the game.
Charlotte tied the game in the top of the third as Pedro Powell singled home Cody Cipriano. The Stone Crabs took the lead in the fifth inning when Greg Sexton hit a sac fly to left field to score Matthew Hall and put the Stone Crabs ahead 2-1.
The Stone Crabs added to the lead in the top of the eighth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Christian Lopez that scored Matt Fields. Greg Sexton drove in two more runs in the ninth inning with a 2-RBI single to center that scored Pedro Powell and Shawn O’Malley giving the Stone Crabs a 5-1 victory.
Alex Cobb picked up his first victory of the season going 6 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 3. Kevin Boggan pitched 2 no hit innings and recorded a hold while striking out 1 and walking 2. Austin Hinkle pitched the 9th innings giving up 1 hit and walking 1. Jose Rosario was charged with the loss for Jupiter.
What Went Right: Stolen Bases; Stone Crabs stole 5 bases during the course of the game (2 by Shawn O’Malley, 2 by Pedro Powell and 1 by Emeel Salem). Pedro Powell; 3-4 with an RBI, runs scored and 2 steals.
What Went Wrong: Ryan Royster; 0-4 today, 0 for his last 11 plate appearances with a .194 average.
A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs head home to start a three game series against the Palm Beach Cardinals (9-16). Jesse Darcy (0-2) will get the start for the Stone Crabs.
