The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs finished up right where they left off last night by defeating the Brevard County Manatees 6-4 in game one of the doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Space Coast Stadium. The Stone Crabs struck fist by putting three runs on the board in the first inning. Greg Sexton, Cody Cipriano and Henry Wrigley picked up RBI’s in the inning to give the Stone Crabs a 3-0 lead.
The Stone Crabs added to their lead in the third off a solo homer by Cody Cipriano. Then the Stone Crabs picked up two more in the fifth off an RBI single by John Matulia to score Reid Fronk. Henry Wrigley scored on a wild pitch in the inning to give the Stone Crabs a 6-0 lead.
The Manatees mounted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning by putting three runs on the board. Brent Brewer got things going by driving home Zelous Wheeler. Lee Haydel tripled to score Sergio Miranda and later scored on a single by Eric Ferris to put the Manatees within three.
Brevard County kept rolling into the sixth as Zelous Wheeler hit an RBI triple to score Caleb Gindl. The Stone Crabs were able to put a stop to the Manatee rally and held on to win 6-4.
Jeremy Hall earned the win by going 5 innings and allowing 3 runs (all unearned) off three hits while striking out 4 and walking 3. Austin Hinkle recorded the save by allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out and walking 1. Amaury Rivas was the losing pitcher for Brevard County.
What Went Right: Jeremy Hall; recorded his team leading sixth win by not allowing an earned run in 5 innings pitched. John Matulia; 3 for 3 with an RBI and drew a walk.
What Went Wrong: Christian Lopez; 0-4 with a strike-out.
A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs look to sweep the Manatees in game two of the doubleheader. David Newmann (3-3) will pitch against Mark Rogers (0-0).
