The Charlotte Stone Crabs remain in second place of the FSL South Division after going 4-3 on the week. The Stone Crabs were forced to play back-to-back double headers in Brevard County after being rained out the first two games of the season. Charlotte took three out of the four games against the FSL North Division leading Manatees. The Stone Crabs are currently trailing the Fort Myers Miracle by six and a half games.
Hitting Leaders: Cody Cipriano took over the team lead in home runs as Matt Fields has been promoted to AA. Cipriano now leads the team in batting average (.313), slugging percentage (.500) and homers (5). Greg Sexton took over the team lead in RBI’s with 33 also as a result of the promotion.
Pitching Leaders: Matt Gorgen continues to stay hot. His ERA has dropped to 0.31 and now has 9 saves, which is second in the FSL. Jeremy Hall picked up his team leading 6th win. Alex Cobb has the lowest ERA of the starters at 2.57, but Darin Downs isn’t too far away at 2.77. David Newmann picked up 8 strikeouts in his last outing against Brevard County and leads the team and is second in the league with 65 K’s.
Team Stats: The Stone Crabs are currently hitting .241 as a team and have 75 doubles, 16 triples (third in the league) and 23 home runs. Charlotte ranks third in the league in steals with 71. The team pitching moved up a spot into fifth best in the league after improving their ERA to 3.44. The Stone Crabs are fourth in the league in strikeouts with 415 and have walked 129 batters which is second fewest in the league.
Transactions: Paul Phillips promoted to Montgomery (6/4/09). Tommy Rafferty added to the roster from Bowling Green (6/5/09). Diogenes Luis transferred to Hudson Valley (6/9/09). Matt Fields promoted to Montgomery (6/9/09). Henry Wrigley added to the roster from Bowling Green (6/9/09). Matt Hall added to the roster from Durham (6/9/09). Pat Burrell added to roster for MLB rehab assignment (6/10/09).
