The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs swept Tuesday’s doubleheader by defeating the Brevard County Manatees 3-1 in game two at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees got things rolling with a lead off homer by Lee Haydel to put the Manatees ahead 1-0.
The Stone Crab answered back in the second inning thanks in part to sloppy pitching on the part of the Manatees. Greg Sexton led off the inning with a walk. Sexton then advanced to second on a passed ball, then to third on a wild pitch. John Matulia followed with a single to center to score Sexton and tie the game 1-1.
The tie held until the top of the seventh. Greg Sexton got things going by drawing a walk. Henry Wrigley reached on a fielding error by Brevard County’s Sergio Miranda. John Matulia grounded into a force out to give the Stone Crabs runner on the corners for Ian Paxton. Paxton delivered a two run double to score Sexton and Matulia and give the Stone Crabs the lead 3-1 in which then held on to until the end.
