The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs returned to action Wednesday night and defeated the Jupiter Hammerheads 8-2 at Charlotte Sports Park. After sitting out a brief rain delay, the Stone Crabs went straight to work, putting eight runs on the board in the first two innings.
Charlotte started out by scoring four runs in the first inning. Shawn O’Malley led off with a single and advanced to third on back to back ground outs by Omar Luna and Shawn Riggans. Henry Wrigley followed with a single to right to score O’Malley. Reid Fronk was next up with an RBI single to center. Shawn Williams finished up the scoring in the inning with a two run home run to give the Stone Crabs a 4-0 lead.
The Stone Crabs picked right up where they left off in the second with four more runs. Once again it was Shawn O’Malley that got things started with a single to left and later scored on an RBI double by Omar Luna. Shawn Riggans was then hit by a pitch to give the Stone Crabs runners at first and second. Reid Fronk followed with a two run single to score Luna and Riggans. Fronk later scored on a triple by Shawn Williams and the Stone Crabs increased their lead to 8-0.
Jupiter finally got some runs in the top of the fourth inning. Ryan Curry led off the inning with a double to left. Ben Harrison followed with a two run home run. But the Stone Crabs held on to win 8-2.

A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs play the Hammerheads in game two of the series on Thursday night at Charlotte Sports Park. Jeremy Hall (10-4) will start for Charlotte pitching against Alejandro Sanabia (8-4) for Jupiter.
Is McCormick the new lead catcher in Charlotte?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't classify him as the lead catcher. Since the promotion of Nevin Ashley, the Stone Crabs have not employed a lead catcher rather been splitting time between Paxton and Lopez. McCormick is now one of 3 active catchers on the roster.
ReplyDeleteStill a mystery why he was promoted to Charlotte, given his low BA. He's caught 3 of the last 4 games, since he's been there. Lopez did the other. Paxton was DH once, and did not catch. even though his BA is over.300. ????
