Jeremy Hellickson pitched six shutout innings in game one, as the Bulls won 6-2 at Scranton on Thursday, but the Bulls settled for a split with an 8-2 loss in the nightcap.
In the nightcap, Scranton (57-45) took control in the first inning against former Yankees farmhand Matt DeSalvo (0-4). Scranton scored four runs, the last three with two out. Former Bull John Rodriguez capped the rally with a two-run homer to right.
Scranton added a run in the second on an Eric Duncan double, and that proved to be to much to overcome. James Houser and John Meloan each gave Durham a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, before Scranton tacked on three two-out runs in the sixth.
Durham collected single runs in the third and seventh, and got two hits apiece from Craig Albernaz and Elliot Johnson.
The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Bulls (60-46). Durham plays the final game of four against Scranton with a chance to win the series on Friday.
Lefty Carlos Hernandez (6-6) starts against righty Anthony Claggett (4-5). Coverage on 99.9 the Fan ESPN Radio begins at 6:55 with first pitch at 7:05.
