The Game: The GCL Rays struggled to create offense for the majority of the game, but they managed to come up with three clutch runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to slip by the GCL Orioles, 3-1 in a rare Gulf Coast League night game at Charlotte Sports Park in front of a crowd of about 30.
Eli Suero got the start for the Rays and pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, walking two and striking out a pair. 2009 draft pick Jacob Partridge made his professional debut with a scoreless sixth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one. Jose Monegro came on to pitch the final three frames, allowing two hits and one strikeout to earn his first win of the season.
Offensively, the Rays struggled for most of the game. LF Hunter Pace was 2-4 on the night with a run batted in. CF Ruben Contreras scored the winning run on a wild pitch with Felix Gonzalez at the plate. Gonzalez drove in the third Rays run with a single. 2B Luis Marchena also had a two hit night for the Rays.
