The Tampa Bay Rays made the following roster moves affecting the roster of Double-A Montgomery following their loss to Birmingham on Tuesday night:
RHP Jeremy Hellickson promoted to Durham (AAA), LHP Ryan Morse activated from Hudson Valley (Short-A) roster [24 + 1].
Hellickson made 11 starts for the Biscuits, compiling a record of 3-1 and an ERA of 2.38. He was named the Tampa Bay Rays’ organizational Pitcher of the Month in April. He impressively returned to the Biscuits’ rotation after missing seven starts with a supraspinatus sprain in his right (throwing shoulder). The 22-year is currently rated as the #8 overall prospect in the Rays’ organization by Baseball America. He will make his Triple-A debut when he starts for Durham against the Norfolk Tides on Friday.
RHP Rayner Oliveros will take Hellickson’s spot in the Biscuits’ rotation and start against Birmingham on Friday.
Morse’s activation from the Hudson Valley (Short-A) roster keeps the Biscuits at the Southern League maximum of 24 active players. One player (Jason Perry) is currently on the Disabled List.
