Daniel Hudson stymied the Biscuits for eight innings and the Birmingham Barons again coasted in a 3-0 win on Friday night at Regions Park.
Birmingham got on the board first in the second inning. Dayan Viciedo belted the first pitch of the inning from Biscuits' starter Rayner Oliveros over the left field wall. Viciedo's first home run since June 20th gave the Barons a 1-0 advantage.
Viciedo's home run was one of only two hits allowed by Oliveros (3-1) over five innings in his first start for the Biscuits since April 18th. He walked just one and struck out five, but was saddled with his first loss of the season.
That run was all that Hudson (5-0) needed as he cruised to eight shutout innings. He remained unbeaten on the year by allowing just two hits and striking out seven. The Biscuits never had a runner past second base as they were shutout for the second consecutive ballgame.
Neal Frontz entered in relief in the sixth, and the Barons tacked on a second run to their lead. Jordan Danks led off the inning with a single and C.J. Retherford followed with a blistered-double down the left-field line to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.
The shutout was the second in a row endured by the Biscuits and the 10th time they have been blanked this season. The loss extended their current losing-streak to five games, matching their longest run of futility on the season. It also marked the eighth straight win for the Barons over the Biscuits. Birmingham is now 15-3 in the season-series with Montgomery.
The series finale is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Saturday night at Regions Park. LHP Brandon Mann (5-6, 4.50) will start for Montgomery against RHP Matt Long (1-1, 4.08) for Birmingham.
