Feel free to use this as an open thread to discuss the games, ask questions about players/teams (lots of Renegades talk today), talk about who deserves a promotion, who's hot/not, etc. We haven't tried a GDT before and I'm not sure who will be around since it's Sunday, but have fun. The live scoreboard with links to the games is on the sidebar, in case you haven't noticed. And before anyone asks, no news on any more draft signings.
Princeton is listed as delayed at 4:30. Still not sure who the starter is, Dettrich?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of Cody Rogers? Dude's hitting .370 with 2 home runs along with 7 steals.
ReplyDeleteRogers is definitely a guy to watch based on his performance in Princeton so far. Hopefully we can get some type of scouting report soon, since there wasn't much when he was drafted.
ReplyDeleteHow about moving him to Hudson Valley?
ReplyDeleteI would be for that, but it's possible there's not room for him to play everday there(given Nommensen, Cohen, Murrill, Biell, and Jones are there).
ReplyDeleteWill Moore get the promotion to Charlotte this year or are the walks holding him back?
ReplyDeleteThe Rays pattern is to give pitchers a full season in low-A ball(McGee, Davis, Hellickson, Cobb, etc have all done it). So I'd expect him to stay in Bowling Green.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, any draft signings lately or am I going to have to be chugging tums in August?
ReplyDeleteSwilley and Shuman were the last to sign. I'll probably do an update post this week.
ReplyDeleteare they planning on signing diekroeger. And if they do will they keep him at SS or not because it seems we have enough SS already. And whos bat is bat is better, his or Beckhams? Thanks for answering
ReplyDeleteAlex Colome has 8 strikeouts in 4 innings so far for the Renegades.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Diekroeger, it's really up in the air as to whether he signs. He said before the draft he was going to Stanford no matter what, but since the draft he's said he isn't sure and hasn't really given an indication. He could go down to the deadline, and it'd probably take an above-slot bonus to sign him away from college. My gut says he signs, but that's really only because I don't think they'd draft a guy they don't think they can sign in the 2nd round.
If he does sign, where he plays won't depend on other shortstops in the organization. The thinking is that if a player can play SS, he can slide over to 2nd or 3rd base, so teams like to keep guys at SS until they prove they can't play there(like BJ Upton). That said, the organization could view him as an outfielder and try him out in centerfield.
Beckham has the much batter bat(that's why he was the #1 overall pick and Diekroeger was picked at the end of the 2nd round). Diekroeger's biggest asset, far as I can tell, is his athleticism which hasn't yet totally transferred into baseball skill. It does, however, give him a really high ceiling going forward.
I just noticed that College Senior Tyler Bortnick has a .960 OPS in A-. Is this anything to take seriously?
ReplyDeleteProbably not, but he WAS rated the best defensive college shortstop in 2008 and he's hit the ball really well so far.
ReplyDeletedo you know what Moore's pitch count was today?
ReplyDeleteWill Jennings bat lead off for the rest of his career?
ReplyDeleteDoes Matt Moore have anything really to prove in Bowling Green? He and Satow should be moved to Charlotte ASAP. I agree w/ Rogers maybe he and DJ Jones can switch. Lastly How awesome is Roan Salas and the catcher Sogvia? They doing very well in the VSL. - Rome
ReplyDelete1. do you know what Moore's pitch count was today?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, pitch counts are only really kept on milb's website for AAA and AA.
2. Will Jennings bat lead off for the rest of his career?
Probably, he profiles as a leadoff type: On-base skills plus speed, with a bit of power to boot.
3. Does Matt Moore have anything really to prove in Bowling Green?
His control is a bit spotty, and like I mentioned, the Rays always seem to keep guys at low-A for a full season. I also think they like having him work with R.C. Lichtenstein, the pitching coach in Bowling Green.
4. Lastly How awesome is Roan Salas and the catcher Sogvia?
It's tough to read too much into VSL stats, but those two and shortstop Hector Guevara have all posted impressive statlines.
Kev, thank you. It's just really nice to see the VSL guys doing well after two years of not doing so well. I think it was damn good move to open up the camps in the DR, Venezuela, and Brazil. I imagine we will see dividends from the academies w/in the next three-four years. -Rome
ReplyDeleteIf Cody Rogers is that good, I can't imagaine having guys like Jones and Biell keeping him from moving up a level. Jones and Biell haven't exactly posted great numbers in the Valley.
