The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs dropped the series finale against the Palm Beach Cardinals 2-1 on Sunday evening at Roger Dean Stadium. The Stone Crabs took an early lead in the first inning. Henry Wrigley delivered an RBI single to score Drew Anderson and put the Stone Crabs ahead 1-0.
Palm Beach answered back in the bottom of the first. Jose Garcia led off the inning with a double to left. Adron Chambers followed with a single to give the Cardinals runners on the corners. Curt Smith then plated two runs with a double to center, scoring Garcia and Chambers to give the Palm Beach the lead. Both clubs dueled the remainder of the game, keeping each other of the scoreboard leading to a 2-1 Stone Crabs loss.
Ryan Morse was charged with the loss, surrendering 2 runs on three hits while recording 9 strikeouts. Tommy Rafferty pitched the remaining 2 innings and allowed no hits while striking out 1 and walking 3. George Brown was the winning pitcher for Palm Beach.
What Went Right: Ryan Morse; amazing outing despite the loss, 9 strikeouts and allowed no hits outside the first inning, at one point retiring 18 batters in a row.
What Went Wrong: Offensive Production; only able to push across 1 run on 6 hits while stranding 8 runners and going 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs head to Port St. Lucie to kick off a three game series against the St. Lucie Mets at Tradition Field on Monday. They will play a doubleheader with David Newmann pitching game one and Austin Hinkle pitching game two.
