Unlike game one, Charlotte did not wait till extra innings to score, they scored in the first inning and never looked back. John Matulia picked up a solo home run to put the Stone Crabs ahead 1-0.
The Stone Crabs put together another scoring drive in the fifth inning. Nevin Ashley led off the inning with a single to right and advanced to second on the throw. Reid Fronk followed with a sac bunt to move Ashley to third. Then Ian Paxton drove Ashley home with an RBI single to left field. Paxton advanced to second on a sac bunt by Matt Hall and then to third on a throwing error. Drew Anderson drove home the second run of the inning as his sacrifice fly to center scored Paxton and gave Charlotte the 3-0 victory.
David Newmann pitched a 7 inning complete game shut-out and allowing only 3 hits with 8 strikeouts. Lance Janke was the losing pitcher for Sarasota.
What Went Right: David Newman; complete game shut-out with 8 K’s.
What Went Wrong: Nothing stands out, Stone Crabs were solid in the 3-0 win, no errors and everyone contributed one way or another.
