The GCL Rays took on the Twins for two games yesterday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.
The first game was the completion of July 28th's suspended 2-2 game in Fort Myers. The Twins had a runner on first with no one out in the bottom of the ninth when rain suspended action. The game almost ended quickly, with Nick Lockwood reaching third and trying to score on a single by Hyeong-rok Choi. However, Ruben Contreras gunned him down with a perfect strike from center field to newly added catcher Alejandro Segovia. Despite the great play by the Rays defense, the game would end in the bottom of the eleventh as Daniel Santana scored Brian Bistagne with a sacrifice fly to win 3-2.
The second game was a seven inning contest. The Rays shutout the Twins, 4-0 behind stellar pitching. Jacob Partridge got the start for the Rays and went four shutout innings, allowing just two hits, one walk, and striking out six. Jose Molina went two and two thirds innings of shutout relief, allowing two hits, two hits, and striking out five. Aneuris Mercedes came in to get the final out, a strikeout, earning his second save of the year. Offensively, Geraldo Olivares and Travis Simas contributed an RBI a piece, and Cristian Vasquez drove in two. Olivares was the only Ray to have multiple hits, going 2-3 on the day. The Rays swung the bat well, only striking out once. However, they did not draw a walk.
