The Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Tri-City Valley Cats 2-1 on Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades broke the tie in the bottom of the third inning. Diogenes Luis doubled to start the inning. Luis later scored on a ground ball by Brett Nommensen to take the lead 1-0.
The Renegades pushed across another run in the home half of the eighth inning. Chris Murrill singled to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a ground out by Chris Murrill. Tyler Bortnick drew a walk to put runners on first and second. The Renegades then pulled a double steal in which the ball sailed past the catcher and allowed Murrill to score and increase the lead 2-0.
Tri-City scored in the ninth. Jose Altuve drew a walk to lead off and then advanced to third on a double by Brian Kemp. Erik Castro then drove home Altuve with a ground ball to short. The Renegades kept them from scoring anymore runs to hold on for the 2-1 win.
Kyle Lobstein earned the win by pitching 7 shut-out innings allowing 2 hits with 8 strikeouts. Zach Quate picked up the save with a 2 inning appearance and allowed 1 run on 1 hit with 2 strikeouts and a walk. Colton Pitkin was the losing pitcher for Tri-City.
What Went Right: Kyle Lobstein pitched a 2 hit 7-inning shut-out with 8 K’s.
What Went Wrong: Bennett Davis; committed his team leading 11th error of the season.
A Look Ahead: The Renegades and Valley Cats conclude the series on Wednesday at Dutchess Stadium. Alexander Colome (6-2) will face off against Dallas Keuchel (1-2).
This was the first run given up by Zach Quate this year.
