The Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades rally falls short as they lose to the Lowell Spinners 3-2 on Thursday night at LeLacheur Park. The Spinners picked up all three of their runs in the first inning. Derrik Gibson singled to get things started followed by a walk to Ryan Westmoreland. Michael Almanzar followed with a two run double. Almanzar advanced to third on a single by Drew Hedman and then scored on a sac fly by William Holmes to give Lowell a 3-0 lead.
The Renegades picked up their first run of the night in the fourth inning. Dustin Biell singled to right to start the inning. Biell then stole second and later scored on an RBI single by Eli Sonoqui.
The Renegades added another run in the fifth inning to pull within a run of the lead. Elias Otero reached on an error on lead off the inning. Bennett Davis followed with a single to left. Then DJ Jones reached on an error on his sac bunt to load the bases. Chris Murrill delivered an RBI single to score Otero. But the Renegades stranded the remaining runners and ended up losing the contest 3-2.
Kevin Chavez suffered the loss by giving up 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1 and walking 2. James Hill pitched the final 4 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. Cesare Angeloni picked up the win for Lowell.
What Went Right: Chris Murrill; 2 for 4 with an RBI, only Renegade with multiple hits.
What Went Wrong: Run Production; went 2 for 7 with runners in scoring position and stranded 6 on base.
A Look Ahead: The Renegades and Spinners face off again on Friday night at LeLacheur Park. Jason McEachern (1-3) will be on the mound for Hudson Valley against Jose Alvarez (7-3) for Lowell.
