The Game: The Hudson Renegades were swept by the Lowell Spinners following Thursday’s 2-1 loss at Dutchess Stadium. Both clubs held a scoreless tie into the sixth inning when Lowell replaced their 0 with a 2. Derrik Gibson led off the inning with a single followed by a single by Ryan Westmoreland. Michel Almanzar reached on a force out with Westmoreland out at second, leaving the Spinners with runners on the corners. Almanzar advanced to scoring position following a wild pitch by Bladimir Florentino. Drew Hedman then drove home both runners with an RBI double to center giving Lowell a 2-0 lead.
Hudson Valley returned with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Brett Nommensen led off the inning with a triple. Elias Otero followed with an RBI single to score Nommensen and bring the Renegades to within one run of the lead. But the Renegades were unable to push across any more runs and the Spinners took the 3-2 win.
Devin Fuller turned in a fine starting appearance, pitching 5 innings shut out innings and allowing 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1 in the no decision. Bladimir Florentino was the losing pitcher, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 in 3 innings worked. Douglas Salinas pitched the final frame not allowing a hit and striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. Jose Alvarez was the winning pitcher for Lowell.
What Went Right: Devin Fuller; pitched 5 shut-out innings.
What Went Wrong: Mark Thomas; 0-4 with 2 K’s.
A Look Ahead: The Renegades will continue their current homestand on Friday with a three game series against the State College Spikes (24-24). Kyle Lobstein (1-3) will pitch against Jason Erickson (1-1).
