LeVon Washington Is Going To Chipola College

Kevin Brockway, staff writer at The Gainesville Sun, reports that LeVon Washington, the Rays unsigned 1st round pick, has signed with Chipola College:

Buchholz High standout and former Tampa Bay Rays first-round draft pick LeVon Washington confirmed to The Sun on Friday that he will enroll at Chipola College.

Washington said he intends to re-enter the Major League Amateur draft next June after a season of junior college.

Washington visited with coaches from Santa Fe College on Tuesday afternoon, but opted to go to Chipola instead. Chipola, the 2007 Junior College national champions, had five players selected in last June's amateur draft, including two who went in the top six rounds. Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Russell Martin is the program's most notable former player.
