The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following roster moves affecting Double-A Montgomery prior to their series opener against Mississippi:
OF Desmond Jennings promoted to Durham (AAA), OF J.T. Hall activated from Hudson Valley (Short-A) roster [24 +1].
Jennings ascends to the Triple-A level for the first time, departing while leading the Biscuits in virtually every offensive category. At the time of his promotion, he leads the Southern League in total hits (121), triples (8) and stolen bases (37). He is also second in runs scored (69) and fourth in extra-base hits (42). He was named the Rays’ organizational player of the month in April and recently claimed the Southern League’s Hitter of Week Award for the week of July 13-19. He is currently rated as the #5 overall prospect in the Rays’ chain.
Hall was transferred to the Hudson Valley roster on July 15th. The corresponding moves keep the Biscuits at the Southern League maximum of 24 active players. One player (Jason Perry) is currently on the Disabled List.
Sometimes, I am clueless as to how/why Tampa Bay chooses certain players to get promotions. Jennings, however, makes all the sense in the world. I'm sure Montgomery hates to lose him. Good luck in Durham, Desmond!
