The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following moves affecting the roster of Double-A Montgomery following Saturday night’s win over Carolina:

LHP Alex Torres acquired by Tampa Bay via trade with Los Angeles Angels and assigned to Montgomery, RHP Rayner Oliveros promoted to Durham (AAA) [24 + 2].

Torres, currently rated as the #24 prospect in the Angels’ system by Baseball America, was acquired by the Rays along with 3B Matt Sweeney and a player to be named later for LHP Scott Kazmir. Torres, 21, will make his first start for the Biscuits on Monday night in game four of a five-game series with Carolina. Oliveros advances to Triple-A for the first time in his career.

Torres will wear #34 upon his arrival in Montgomery.

The corresponding moves leave the Biscuits at the Southern League maximum of 24 active players. Two players (Darin Downs, Neal Frontz) are currently on the Disabled List.

  1. Thanks Kevin. They re-did the whole release, see later post. So they're at 22 now, will add Torres on Monday and Frontz soon too per Stacy Long, so should be back at the max of 24 soon.
