The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following move affecting the roster of Double-A Montgomery prior to Monday’s doubleheader with Carolina:
LHP Alex Torres acquired by Tampa Bay via trade with Los Angeles Angels and assigned to Montgomery [23 + 2].
Torres, currently rated as the #24 prospect in the Angels’ system by Baseball America, was acquired by the Rays along with 3B Matt Sweeney and a player to be named later for LHP Scott Kazmir. Torres, 21, will make his first start for the Biscuits on Monday night in game one of a doubleheader with Carolina.
The move leaves the Biscuits one player shy of the Southern League maximum of 24 active players. Two players (RHP Neal Frontz, LHP Darin Downs) are currently on the Disabled List.
Torres will wear #34 with the Biscuits.
