The Game: The Princeton Rays picked up a shut-out by beating the Burlington Royals 7-0 on Sunday at Hunnicutt Field. The Rays took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ty Morrison singled to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a stolen base. Brian Bryles followed with an RBI double to score Morrison. Bryles later scored on a sac fly by Ryan Wiegand to put the Rays ahead.
The Rays added another run in the fourth inning. Ryan Wiegand singled to start the inning. Julio Cedeno was hit by a pitch and then Jason Patton followed with a ground ball to advance Wiegand to third. Wiegand then scored on a balk. Princeton added another run in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Julio Cedeno and the Rays had a 4-0 lead.
Princeton pushed across three more runs in the seventh inning. Daniel Rhault and Kyle Spraker opened up the inning with back to back singles. Ty Morrison then reached on an error, allowing Rhault to score the first run of the inning. Cody Rogers delivered a two run double to score Spraker and Morrison to give the Rays the 7-0 win.
Julius Dettrich picked up the win, allowing 1 hits in 7 innings with 3 strikeouts. Kirby Yates pitched the final 2 innings and also surrendered a hit with 4 strikeouts.
What Went Right: Ty Morrison; 2 for 3 a triple, 2 runs score and 3 stolen bases.
What Went Wrong: Alejandro Torres; only Ray not to reach base, 0-4 with a K.
A Look Ahead: The Rays and Royals face off in game two of the series Monday night at Hunnicutt Field.
