The Game: The Princeton Rays were on the opposite end of the shut-out in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader as they fell to the Johnson City Cardinals 4-0 at Howard Johnson Field. Joseph Hage got things started in the third with a double to left. Hage later scored on an RBI single by Ted Obergon to give the Cardinal the lead 1-0.
Johnson City added to their lead in the fourth inning. Kleininger Teran led off the inning with a line drive single to center field. The Edgar Lara cleared the bases with a two run homer to put the Cardinals ahead 3-0.
The Cardinals picked up their fourth and final run of the night in the sixth inning. Rainel Rosario was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Rosario advanced to second on a sac bunt by Luis Mateo and then moved to third on a single by Audry Perez. Edgar Lara followed with a ground ball the was misplayed by Daniel Rhault, allowing Rosario to score and give the Cardinals a 4-0 win.
Wilking Rodriguez suffered the loss, his sixth of the year, by allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings while striking out 9 batters. Matt Stabelfeld pitched the final innings and allowed a run on 1 hit. Jose Rada was the winning pitcher for Johnson City.
What Went Right: Wilking Rodriguez; despite being charged with the loss, was able to record 9 strikeouts in 5 innings.
What Went Wrong: The Offense; only able to collect 2 hits while going 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position and striking out 5 times.
A Look Ahead: The Rays travel to Greenville to begin a three game series with the Greenville Astros (36-38) on Sunday at Pioneer Park.
