Ray Olmedo’s single in the bottom of the ninth inning plated Desmond Jennings with the winning run as the Bulls knocked off the Tides, 3-2 on Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the scored tied a two runs apiece, Olmedo hit a seeing eye single through the hole at second driving in Desmond Jennings from second to end the game. That hit would be Durham’s 19th win in its final at-bat this season.
Durham struck first in the fifth with a solo shot from Sean Rodriguez well over the wall in left to give the Bulls the early lead.
The Bulls then fell behind 2-1 in the top of the seventh after Durham reliever Heath Rollins allowed two earned runs off back-to-back hits. Durham came back in their half of the inning to tie the game with a Justin Ruggiano double to right scoring Sean Rodriguez.
Joe Nelson (2-1) came in for Rollins in the ninth and held the Tides scoreless to pick up the win.
The Bulls will look to break that record against Norfolk Monday in the regular season finale. Durham’s starting pitcher Jason Cromer (7-3) will take the mound against Norfolk’s Chris George (2-1) with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
