The Durham Bulls today released their playoff roster for the 2009 Governors’ Cup Playoffs. Durham will face the Louisville Bats in Game One of the first round tonight at 7:05 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Jeremy Hellickson will start for the Bulls tonight after an impressive finish with Durham in the regular season in which he went 6-1 with a 2.51 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 57.1 innings of work. Mitch Talbot returns to Durham to pitch Game Two after spending the last three months on the disabled list. He was 4-4 with a 4.47 ERA in 10 starts with the Bulls this year. LHP Jason Cromer gets the nod for Game Three after his career-season, going 7-3 with a 2.25 ERA.
Other pitchers on the roster include team Pitcher of the Year Winston Abreu, Joe Bateman, Julio DePaula, Calvin Medlock, Joe Nelson, Rayner Oliveros, Paul Phillips, Heath Rollins and Mike Wlodarczyk.
The Bulls will carry two catchers into the post-season, Michel Hernandez and John Jaso. Hernandez was with the Bulls for both of their playoff runs in the last two seasons.
Chris Nowak returns from Montgomery replacing longtime first baseman Chris Richard, who was selected to Tampa Bay on September 5th. Nowak joins Joe Dillon, Elliot Johnson, Henry Mateo, Ray Olmedo and Sean Rodriguez in the infield.
The outfield consists of top prospects such as Desmond Jennings, who broke a Bulls’ Triple-A record last week by going 7-7 in a game against Charlotte. Rashad Eldridge, Matt Joyce and Justin Ruggiano round out the outfield.
Tickets are available for Games One and Two of the Governors’ Cup Playoffs between the Durham Bulls and Louisville Bats at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park tonight and tomorrow at 7:05 PM. Call 956-BULL or order online at www.durhambulls.com.
