The Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades increased their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 win over the Oneonta Tigers on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium. The game remained scoreless until fifth inning when the Renegades pushed across a run. Diogenes Luis led off the inning with a triple and then later scored on a balk to give them a 1-0 lead.
Oneonta tied the game in the seventh inning. Matthew Mansilla struck for a solo home run to tie the game at one run a piece.
The Tigers took the lead in the top of the ninth inning with the assistance of back to back errors by the Renegades. Luis Palacios reach and advanced to second on a fielding error by Tyler Bortnick. Then Palacios later scored on a missed catch error and the Tigers took a 2-1 lead.
But the Renegades battled back to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mayobanex Acosta singled to center to lead off the inning. DJ Jones and Elias Otero both reached on errors to load the bases. Diogenes Luis drove home the tying run with a single to center. Then Tyler Bortnick made up for his earlier error by driving home the game winning run with a single to left field scoring DJ Jones and giving the Renegades a 3-2 win.
Kyle Lobstein pitched 6 innings and did not allow a run on 4 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1. Jeff Cinadr gave up a run on 1 hit with 1 strikeout in 2 innings worked. Doug Salinas picked up the win, pitching 1 inning and allowing an unearned run. Kenny Faulk was the losing pitcher for the Tigers.
What Went Right: Kyle Lobstein; pitched 6 scoreless innings, only allowing 4 hits and recording 9 strikeouts. Diogenes Luis; 3 for 4 with a triple, RBI and a run scored.
What Went Wrong: Errors; committed 3 errors on the night which contributed to the Tigers scoring the potential winning run.
A Look Ahead: The Renegades conclude their 2009 season on Sunday against the Oneonta Tigers at Dutchess Stadium. Alexander Colome (7-3 ) will get the start against Clemente Mendoza (4-5).
