The Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades won their fourth game in a row by defeating the Oneonta Tiger 3-1 on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades scored all of their runs on the bottom of the second inning. Brett Nommensen singled to left to get things started. Nommensen then advanced to third on a throwing error on the pickoff attempt. Mayobanex Acosta drove home Nommensen with a sac fly to left. Elias Otero followed with a single to right. Then Bennett Davis struck and RBI double to left. Davis later scored on an RBI double by Chris Murrill and the Renegades were now looking at a 3-0 lead.
Oneonta scored their only run in the game during the third inning. Luis Palacios singled to center followed by a walk to Matthew Mansilla. Jamie Johnson then singled to left to load the bases for the Tigers. Jimmy Gulliver hit a sac fly to score Palacios. But the Renegades kept the Tigers from pushing across any more runs and held on for the 3-1 win.
Devin Fuller picked up the win, allowing only 1 run n 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks in 6 innings on the mound. James Hill pitched 2 shut-out innings and allowed a hit with a strikeout and a walk. Zach Quate pitched a no-hit ninth to record the save. Luis Angel Sanz was the losing pitcher for Oneonta.
What Went Right: Zach Quate; pitched a no hit ninth to record his 13th save of the season, Quate struck out 2 of the 3 batters he face and now holds a 0.35 ERA.
What Went Wrong: Mark Thomas; 0 for 4 with 2 K’s.
A Look Ahead: The Renegades continue the series against the Tigers on Saturday at Dutchess Stadium. Kyle Lobstein (3-5) will pitch against Nate Newman (2-1).
