The Game: The Princeton Rays beat the Greeneville Astros 6-2 on Monday night at Pioneer Park. The Rays took a two run lead in the second inning. Julio Cedeno singled to lead off the inning and then scored on a two run home run by Jason Patton to put the Rays ahead.
The Rays added a few more runs to their total in the third inning. Kyle Spraker led off with a walk and later advanced to third on a single by Ty Morrison. Brian Bryles followed with a sac fly to score Spraker. Ryan Wiegand then drew a walk. Wigand and Morrison pulled a double steal to move both runners into scoring position. Julio Cedeno followed through with a two run single to increase the Princeton lead to 5-0.
The Astros scored their first run on the night in the third inning. Carlos Mojica singled to right and then advanced to third on a single by Oscar Figueroa. Then Jiovanni Mier delivered a sac fly to score Mojica.
Princeton countered with a run on solo home run by Ryan Wiegand in the fifth inning, increasing the Rays lead to 6-1.
Greeneville scored another run in the sixth inning. Jiovanni Mier tripled to left to lead off the inning. Then Mier scored on a ground ball by Nathan Metroka. The Rays kept the Astros off the board the remainder of the game to take the win 6-2.
Zach Rosscup earned the win by pitching 5 1/3 innings with allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts. Jairo De La Rosa pitched 1 2/3 shut-out innings with a hit and 2 strikeouts. Alex Koronis pitched the final 2 innings and did not allow a run on 1 hit with a strikeout and a walk. David Martinez took the loss for Greeneville.
What Went Right: Julio Cedeno; 4 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.
What Went Wrong: Stranding runners; P-Rays were 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position and left 8 men stranded.
A Look Ahead: The Rays look to conclude the 2009 season with a sweep against Greenville on Tuesday night at Pioneer Park.
