2010 Charlotte Stone Crabs Season Preview

Charlotte Stone CrabsThe 2010 Charlotte Stone Crabs have huge expectations following on the heels of a Division Title in their inaugural season. This years club has some of the best prospects in the organization in Tim Beckham, Matt Moore, Joseph Cruz, Kyeong Kang and Jake Jefferies. The roster also features a few returning Stone Crabs in Marquis Fleming, Reid Fronk, Matt Hall, Omar Luna, Tommy Rafferty, Josh Satow, Matt Sweeney Stephen Vogt, Shawn Williams and Henry Wrigley.

The offense will be lead by Tim Beckham. Beckham ranked ninth in the South Atlantic league last season in hits with 135 with 33 doubles, 4 triples. The power of the team will come from Henry Wrigley and Michael Sheridan, who combined accounted for 24 home runs and 117 RBI’s last season.

Since FSL is known as a pitching league, the Stone Crabs will not be lacking in this department either. The staff will be anchored by Matt Moore. Moore was 8-5 with a 3.15 ERA last season with Bowling Green. He will be joined on the mound by Joseph Cruz, Nick Barnese and Chris Andujar as a sample of the young arms on the team.

One thing missing on the roster from last season is speed. Shawn O’Malley’s promotion to AA has left the Stone Crabs with a void in the stolen base department. O’Malley stole 40 bases last season as compared to Isaias Velasquez’s 14 from last season.

It will be interesting to see if the coaching staff in Charlotte can mold these players into a team that can defend the Division Title and bring the Championship home to Port Charlotte. Find out as the Stone Crabs begin their season on Thursday against the Palm Beach Cardinals.
