The Game: The Bowling Green Hot Rods avoided the sweep by defeating the Dayton Dragons 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Both clubs dueled in a scoreless tie until the seventh inning when the Dragons struck for a run. Henry Rodriguez doubled to right to lead off the inning. Andrew Mean singled to center to move Rodriguez to third. Byron Wiley drove him home to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.
The Hot Rods battled back to take the lead in the eighth inning. Chris Murrill singled on a bunt to get things started. Tyler Bortnick followed with a single to move Murrill to third. Brett Nommensen drove home the tying run with a single to left. The Hot Rods then pulled a double steal to move both runners into scoring position. A single by Mayobanex Acosta single drove home two runs to give the Hot Rods a 3-1 margin of victory.
Alex Colome was almost perfect in his six innings on the mound, allowing only 1 run while striking out 6 hitters. Alex Koronis picked up the win by pitching 2 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk. Scott Shuman earned his second save of the season by pitching a no-hit ninth inning with 1 strikeout.
Hot Rods Player of the Game: Alex Colome: dominating performance allowing only 1 hit and 6 strikeouts in 6 innings.
