MONTGOMERY, AL - One night after knocking a season-high 13 hits and scoring a season-best eight runs, the Biscuits had their five-game win-streak snapped with an 8-0 loss to Carolina.
The Mudcats got on the board in the third after Jake McGee walked the leadoff man, Michael Griffin. Griffin would move up to second on a single from Sean Danielson, and both would score on a Kris Negron double to make it 2-0 Carolina.
A two-run homer from Michael Griffin one inning later made it 4-0 Mudcats, and after McGee walked Yonder Alonso with one down in the fifth, he was pulled from the game. Alonso came around to score when Sean Henry tripled off of Rayner Oliveros to make it 5-0.
Darin Downs came into the game as the third Biscuits pitcher of the night in the seventh, and allowed three runs on five hits in two innings of work. The three Biscuits pitchers combined for a season-high eight walks.
Matt Fields was the only Biscuit to record multiple hits, going 2-4 with a pair of singles. Four different Mudcats knocked two hits apiece.
McGee takes the loss and falls to 1-1 on the season, while Tom Cochran improves to 2-0, allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking one.
LHP David Newmann (0-0, 0.00) will throw on Saturday for the Biscuits against Carolina’s RHP Daryl Thompson (0-0, 2.50) with the first pitch being thrown at 5:15 CT.
