CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Biscuits attempt at coming back from a 6-0 deficit fell just short on Monday night at AT&T Field as they fell 7-5 to the Chattanooga Lookouts. The loss marks the first time since the first two days of the season the Biscuits have dropped consecutive games.
Biscuits starter Alex Torres sat the Lookouts down in order in the first, but it was downhill from there. The first five reached in the second for Chattanooga, and they scored four runs on four hits in the frame to put the Biscuits down 4-0.
One inning later, the first five Lookouts hitters again reached against Torres, this time plating two and dropping the Biscuits into a 6-0 hole.
In the fifth, Chris De La Cruz led off with a single, then moved to second when Cody Strait walked. Ryan Royster, who had tallied just one hit since his first at bat of the season, then clubbed a three-run homer to right center to cut the deficit in half, making it 6-3.
The Lookouts used a two-out single from the top prospect in the Dodgers organization, Dee Gordon, to score an insurance run in the sixth.
The Biscuits mounted a comeback attempt in the eighth trailing 7-3. With the bases loaded and two outs, Matt Fields lined a 3-1 fastball to left field to score John Matulia and Drew Anderson. De La Cruz then struck out to end the inning with the tying run on base. That sent it to the ninth with the Biscuits down 7-5, but they went down in order against Javy Guerra (3) to end the game.
The Biscuits managed just five hits against the Lookouts ten. Andrew Lambo led the way for Chattanooga, going 3-4.
Torres takes the loss and falls to 1-1. Lookouts starter Chris Withrow grabs the win to go to 1-1 as well.
RHP Rayner Oliveros (1-0, 1.93) makes his first start of the season for Montgomery on Tuesday against Chattanooga’s Alberto Bastardo (1-1, 3.60) with the first pitch being thrown at 6:15 CT.
