(Fort Mill, SC) Heath Phillips and three relievers combined to hold Charlotte in check on Monday, as the Bulls won their fourth straight, 11-2 over the Knights.
Phillips (1-0) kept Charlotte in check over the first five innings as Durham built a 4-0 lead against starter Carlos Torres (1-2). Durham had scored just three runs in 30 innings last year against the right hander.
The Bulls rallied for three in the third with three straight hits. Desmond Jennings (2-for-6) singled home one run and Hank Blalock the other, with a third run scoring on a Charlotte error. Dan Johnson added the last run in the fifth, a solo homer to right, his league-leading fifth homer of the season.
The Bulls poured it on against the Charlotte bullpen, putting up seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Durham collected 12 hits and 10 walks. Angel Chavez was among the hitting heroes. His three-run homer in the seventh capped the scoring.
Durham now has scored 42 runs in the last four games, and has outscored the opposition 42-12 over that stretch. The Bulls have a league-best 9-3 record.
Aneury Rodriguez makes his Triple-A debut on Tuesday morning at Knights Stadium against fellow righty Jeff Marquez. Coverage on 620 the Buzz begins at 11 a.m. with first pitch at 11:15 a.m.
