Durham, NC – The Bulls pounced on Norfolk LHP Troy Patton (0-2) for six runs in the first inning and never looked back as Durham pounded the Tides, 14-7 on Friday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The 14 runs and 20 hits was the most for Durham on the young season.
The Bulls sent 11 men to the plate during their six-run first, highlighted by Joe Dillon’s two-run homer, his first of the season. Durham was up 7-0 after two, but the Tides came back with a pair of runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to make it a 6-5 game in favor of the Bulls. A pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings along with a three-spot in the seventh gave the Bulls all the offense they would need to hold off the Tides.
Everyone in the Bulls lineup had at least one hit. Seven Bulls had multi-hit games while Dan Johnson (4) and Ryan Shealy (1) each homered.
RHP Virgil Vasquez (2-0) picked up the win allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings of work. Patton took the loss allowing six runs (five earned) in just one-third of an inning.
The Bulls and Tides continue their series on Saturday night at 5:05 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
