The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits suffered a heartbreaking extra innings 3-2 loss to the Mobile Bay Bears on opening day at Riverwalk Stadium.
Mobile took the lead in the first inning. Bryan Byrne drew a walk then scored on an RBI double by Konrad Schmidt to take a 1-0 lead.
The Biscuits tied the game in the third inning. Ryan Royster led off the inning with a double to center. Emeel Salem drove him home with an RBI single to tie the game 1-1.
Mobile regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Konrad Schmidt singled to center to lead off. Schmidt then stole second and later scored on a double by Ricardo Sosa to give the Bay Bears a 2-1.
But Montgomery battled right back to tie the game again in the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Fields singled to right to get things going. Fields advanced to third on a single by Cody Strait. Cody Cipriano plated the run with an RBI double to score Fields to tie things up 2-2.
The score remained tied 2-2 at the end of nine innings, forcing extra innings. Mobile struck for a run in the top of the tenth inning. The Bay Bears put runners onboard with back to back singles by Evan Frey and Collin Cowgill. Bryan Byrne plated the winning run with a single to left to score Frey. The Biscuits could not cross the plate in the home half of the inning and Mobile picked up the 3-2 win.
Alex Torres got the start, pitching 4 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in the no decision. Rayner Oliveros pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 run on 3 hits with a strikeout and a walk. Paul Phillip pitched 2 shut-out innings with a strikeout. Matt Gorgen suffered the loss, allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk in 2 innings.
Biscuits Player of the Game: Cody Cipriano; 2 for 3 with double and an RBI.

A Look Ahead: The Biscuits (0-1) will take on the Bay Bears (1-0) again on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Aneury Rodriguez will take the mound for Montgomery against Tom Layne of Mobile.
