The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits offense heated up in the late innings to defeat the Mississippi Braves 8-0 in game one of a double header on Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium. Alex Torres helped secure the win by throwing 6 shut-out innings.
The Biscuits took the lead in the third inning. Cody Strait doubled to left to lead off the inning. John Matulia hit into a fielder’s choice with Strait out at third. Matulia then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Chris De La Cruz drove home Matulia to take a 1-0 lead.
The Biscuits posted a seven run fifth inning to ensure the win. John Matulia singled to lead off the inning. Emeel Salem reached on an error to follow. Chris De La Cruz laid down a sac bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Chris Nowak then drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Nevin Ashley doubled to left to score Matulia and Salem. Greg Sexton followed with a two run single to score Nowak and Ashley. Sexton the advanced to second on a Cody Cipriano single. Cody Strait doubled to left, scoring Sexton and moving Cipriano to third. John Matulia then singled home Cipriano and Strait to give the Biscuits the 8-0 margin of victory.
Alex Torres picked up the win by pitching 6 shut-out innings and allowing only 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks. Dane De La Rosa pitched a scoreless inning with 1 hit, 2 strikeouts and a walk.
