Bulls Roll at Columbus to Start Road Trip
Jeremy Hellickson fanned 11 in six shutout innings, and the Bulls scored four in the second and rolled to an 8-1 win on Friday night to start an eight-game road trip.
Win the win over Columbus, the Bulls have won three straight, and are tied with the Clippers for the best record in the International League (22-14).
Durham got all it would need in the second against Yohan Pino (4-2). Ryan Shealy started the one-out rally with a solo homer to left, his sixth. Chris Richard and Angel Chavez followed with back-to-back doubles for the second run. Columbus would commit two errors later in the frame to score two more Bulls runs.
Durham added three in the third on a Chris Richard homer, his sixth, and tacked on another in the fourth on a Dan Johnson sac fly.
That was more than enough for Hellickson, who became the IL's first six-game winner. He did not walk a batter, and collected eight of his strikeouts with runners on base.
Durham collected 12 hits, half of them for extra bases, as Shealy, Richard, Chavez and Desmond Jennings had two hits apiece.
The Bulls will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday as LHP Heath Phillips takes the mound against righty Carlos Carrasco at 7:05. Coverage on 620 the Buzz begins at 6:50.
