The Charlotte Stone Crabs continued to struggle as they fell 5-0 to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Friday night at Dunedin Stadium. The Blue Jays used a five run inning to put the game out of reach for the Stone Crabs.
Despite throwing a season high 11 strikeouts, Matt Moore was unable get that first win on the season and has fallen to 0-6 on the year.
Dunedin broke the scorelss tie in the fifth inning. Three consecutive singles by Brian Van Kirk, Daniel Perales and Welinton Ramirez loaded the bases for the Blue Jays. Adeiny Hechavarria drove home the first run with a single to right field. Then Travis d'Arnaud cleared the bases with a grand slam to give the D-Jays a 5-0 lead.
The Stone Crabs offense struggled to push the run across, going 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and stranding 6 runners on base. No hitter managed to record multiple hits and the team struck out a total of 7 times on the night.
The Stone Crabs will try to stop the slide on Saturday night against the Blue Jays at Dunedin Stadium. Shane Dyer (1-1, 2.25) will get the start for the Stone Crabs against Joel Carreno (2-3, 3.99).
