[Game recap provided by Biscuits broadcaster Joe Davis.]
Matt Fields bounced a two-out base hit to right field to score Chris De La Cruz in the bottom of the tenth, giving the Biscuits (15-10) a 6-5 win over the Jacksonville Suns (16-9) Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium.
Jacksonville hopped on Biscuits starter Jeremy Hall in the first inning with three runs, punctuated by a two-RBI double from Matt Dominguez with two-outs.
Chris Nowak launched his first homer of the season to left in the bottom of the first, making it 3-1.
The Biscuits would take their first lead in the fourth inning. Nowak singled with one out, and after Nevin Ashley reached on an error and Cody Cipriano singled, Fields drew a bases loaded walk to make it 3-2. Greg Sexton was hit by the next pitch to tie it at 3, then Cody Strait picked up an RBI with a fielder’s choice ground out, and John Matulia capped the inning’s scoring with a single to right making it 5-3 Biscuits.
The Suns drew even in the sixth. Reliever Eddie Morlan gave up a walk and a double with one out, then Ryan Reid allowed back-to-back singles to bring things to 5-5.
In the fateful tenth, Chris De La Cruz led off with a walk against Jonathan Fulton and moved to second on an Ashley single. Both advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch, and then after Cipriano grounded to short for the second out, Fields poked his game-winner to right.
Nowak led the way for Montgomery, going 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
Dane De La Rosa (2-0) takes the win with two scoreless innings of relief for the Biscuits, who have now won seven of eight, and four in a row. Fulton (0-1) was charged with the loss.
LHP Jake McGee returns to the rotation tomorrow to face off against Jacksonville RHP Tom Koehler with the first pitch in the air at 10:35 am.
