MONTGOMERY, AL – The Biscuits (17-14) managed just four singles and were shut out for the second time this season, falling by a final of 4-0 to the Huntsville Stars (17-15) Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Stars used a small-ball approach to plate their first run. Chris Errecart singled to begin the second, and after advancing to third on a Andy Machado walk, was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Juan Sanchez. A Chuckie Caufield sacrifice fly to center brought Errecart home to put the Stars up 1-0.
Errecart was in the middle of things again in the fourth, leading off with a double and scoring on a Jake McGee throwing error.
The final two runs came off of Justin Garcia in the fifth. Brent Brewer led off with a single, then nine-hitter Martin Maldanado hit his second homer of the year to left field making it 4-0 Huntsville.
Each of the first four in the Montgomery order recorded singles. The bottom five went a combined 0-14.
Huntsville starter Mark Rogers was the story, allowing just one single in five innings of work, striking out three and walking three to improve to 2-2 on the season. Biscuits starter Jake McGee (0-2) was solid as well, striking out four and walking one while allowing two earned runs on three hits in four innings of work in the loss.
LHP Alex Cobb makes his first double-A start on Wednesday night against Huntsville’s RHP Chris Cody at 7:05.
